If patients asked you to become a subscriber to HealthVault and FAX their paper medical records to a secure web site such as HealthVault, would you do so if it was free, and you had future access to the records, and it would reduce your paper medical charts?
#Response DateOther (please specify)
.11/12/2007 7:52:00 PMDon't know
.11/12/2007 8:57:00 PMpossibly
.11/14/2007 1:41:00 PMnot allowed in my country as posted above
.11/14/2007 4:49:00 PMmay be time factor
.11/14/2007 5:00:00 PMProbably
.11/14/2007 5:19:00 PMdepends on the emr
.11/14/2007 5:30:00 PMI'm not sure hwo it would interface with the workflow
.11/14/2007 7:48:00 PMit will not reduce my paper chars because it does not prevent from keeping them. Fax a huge paper MR might be very time consumming.... it is the patient to do so
.11/14/2007 8:49:00 PMI don't know what is involved in "become a subscriber" but other than that i would probably say Yes.
.11/15/2007 1:37:00 AMsee 15
.11/15/2007 4:29:00 PMagain, only if I am clearly operating under HIPAA compliance with this system.
.11/15/2007 8:04:00 PMWould not necessarily reduce paper charts
.11/19/2007 2:00:00 PMAgain I have other legal precedents to follow.
.11/19/2007 2:36:00 PMmybe
.11/19/2007 3:58:00 PMperhaps in the future when I am confident the bugs are worked out
.11/19/2007 10:40:00 PMMaybe - nothing is free - depends on time commitment to FAX/scan records and reliability of system
.11/20/2007 3:14:00 PMIn most instaces I weould
.11/22/2007 5:48:00 PMIt's not free if I have to pay for staff time to do the faxing, plus wear and tear on the fax machine.
.11/22/2007 5:55:00 PMVery time consuming without reimbursement
.11/22/2007 5:59:00 PMmaybe
.11/22/2007 6:01:00 PMWould consider
.11/22/2007 6:05:00 PMmaybe
.11/22/2007 6:14:00 PMI am not sure
.11/22/2007 6:28:00 PMAs a pediatrician, we are already significantly under-resourced by payers, relative to adult and specialty physicians. There would be no way to afford it...you say it is free, but that is to the patient. The time and direct cost to our practice, since this likely would not be a paid service, would take away funds used for patient care.
.11/22/2007 6:37:00 PMneed to know more about the system
.11/22/2007 6:59:00 PMYes if the system made that decision.
.11/22/2007 7:20:00 PMmaybe. need to look at the system
.11/22/2007 7:23:00 PMmaybe
.11/22/2007 8:17:00 PMunless not compatible with Epic system
.11/22/2007 8:40:00 PMOnce again, faxes are images, not data. Reviewing and recovering DATA from faxed images only displaces the responsibility for physical maintenance of the record. I become dependent upon electronic communications without the workflow benefits above. Again, a Level 2 record vs a Level 5 record. (Medical Record Institute).
.11/22/2007 8:56:00 PMit depends on the nature of the documents
.11/22/2007 9:19:00 PMbut I would still keep my copy, thus not reducing paper charts.
.11/22/2007 9:36:00 PMmaybe
.11/22/2007 11:37:00 PMI have too many locations to go looking for records now, why would I want another unstructured location?
.11/23/2007 12:29:00 AMNot currently as I am not familiar enough with the software and I doubt my current hardware would support such a system.
.11/23/2007 12:48:00 AMnot certain
.11/23/2007 12:49:00 AMGuaranteed access and retention provisions haven't been mentioned.
.11/23/2007 1:09:00 AMunsure
.11/23/2007 1:16:00 AM.There would be some costs involving that process eventhough the sofware was free. I would want to be reimbursed for those costs.
.11/23/2007 1:20:00 AMno
.11/23/2007 2:16:00 AMsame as above, even if a pt requested, if I did not have EMR it would be too time consuming
.11/23/2007 3:23:00 AMunsire at this time
.11/23/2007 3:40:00 AMHard to trust this: If HealthVault went off-line, I could be liable for failure to maintain records. What if the pt disagreed with something I wrote and removed the document? I would be willing to submit, but not to delete my copy.
.11/23/2007 3:42:00 AMIt would cost $$ to fax all those records.
.11/23/2007 4:18:00 AMperhaps
.11/23/2007 7:34:00 AMn/a
.11/23/2007 8:22:00 AMtoo many questions wrapped up in this. If the patient asked me to trasmit my work product to their personal record i would do it.
.11/23/2007 1:16:00 PMWe employ a service that takes care of that for us
.11/23/2007 2:11:00 PMToo much of an administrative burden without obvious/immediate benefit to my office
.11/23/2007 2:15:00 PMsee #16
.11/23/2007 2:20:00 PMsee other comments above including time needed to use system
.11/23/2007 2:30:00 PMThere would need to be a fee to cover staff time to fax the material.
.11/23/2007 2:39:00 PMThis would be very time intensive
.11/23/2007 3:35:00 PMProbably, but will need to further evaluate the service.
.11/23/2007 3:57:00 PMNot until I had discussed my concerns about secondary and tertiary password recipients. And perhaps not even then.
.11/23/2007 4:27:00 PMnot sure
.11/23/2007 5:01:00 PMPossibly, but would need to evaluate the security and other uses of the system
.11/23/2007 5:24:00 PMIt depends on how much time this take from myself or my staff.
.11/23/2007 6:00:00 PMyes
.11/23/2007 6:04:00 PMdo not know
.11/23/2007 6:59:00 PMBecause FAX'ing is not currently secure, and because we currently do not routinely create paper documents from our EMR
.11/23/2007 7:06:00 PMI need more information about specific system
.11/23/2007 7:30:00 PMProvided it is for review and does not obligate me to switch automatically into the system without trying and liking it.
.11/23/2007 9:05:00 PMmy staff time is not FREE for doing this
.11/23/2007 10:59:00 PMNot my decision. The practice plan business administrators make those decsions.
.11/24/2007 12:24:00 AMnot sure
.11/24/2007 12:39:00 AMProvided I had everyone's permission.
.11/24/2007 12:49:00 AMconcern over faxing
.11/24/2007 2:07:00 AMnot sure
.11/24/2007 2:18:00 AMprobably
.11/24/2007 4:27:00 AMCouldn't depend on Microsoft to continue to support ANY product with the original terms of service. Just try asking them a question about DOS...
.11/24/2007 5:37:00 AMIt can't possibly be free if I or my employees have to do anything to make it work.
.11/24/2007 6:58:00 AMONLY IF IT WERE HASSLE FREE. IF I HAVE TO EXPEND TIME AND ENERGY, I WOULD RATHER NOT.
.11/24/2007 12:48:00 PMWould HealthVault or the patient pay to scan the documents. I can't make a living with the current system of paperwork.
.11/24/2007 1:51:00 PMIt may be free but this would not be without cost---the patient would be billed for my office staff's time and phone/fax charges
.11/24/2007 3:03:00 PMFree is operative word - I would have to pay a staff member to upload all of this
.11/24/2007 3:29:00 PMdepends
.11/24/2007 3:35:00 PMSomeone has to pay for the time it takes to do this. Who is going to do that, the insurer, patient, government ?
.11/24/2007 4:48:00 PMmay be.
.11/24/2007 5:51:00 PMMaybe, it depends on all involved specialists getting on board
.11/24/2007 6:08:00 PMcost involved to fax
.11/24/2007 7:12:00 PMProbably
.11/24/2007 9:17:00 PMmaybe
.11/25/2007 1:37:00 AMIt requires a new level of medical support (to track and fax all such records) and it would not reduce my paper medical charts as I would still need to maintain them as the "source" record.
.11/25/2007 1:38:00 AMwould consider it
.11/25/2007 1:55:00 AMIt wouldn't be free, I'd be paying somebody to do the faxing.
.11/25/2007 2:53:00 AMI would do it and charge a service fee. Faxing records to Microsoftis not a covered service. My Medicar fees are about to be cut 10% which is a 30% cut in my gross. Why should I provide additional services for nothing???
.11/25/2007 3:57:00 AMPossibly
.11/25/2007 4:33:00 PMwhat about cost for staff time to search, retrieve, and fax the records?
.11/25/2007 6:03:00 PMonly for those that ask
.11/25/2007 8:13:00 PMnot sure
.11/26/2007 1:08:00 AMmay be-very time consuming and costly to accomplish
.11/26/2007 2:04:00 AMWho pays for the staff time to fax all of this in?
.11/26/2007 3:25:00 AMWork for a corporation who would have to agree to subscribe
.11/26/2007 3:35:00 AMnot sure
.11/26/2007 4:17:00 AMI would provide them with the records and let them fax it if they wanted but would prefer not to do so directly as I would continue to use our own EMR system
.11/26/2007 11:04:00 AMfaxing is not free and consumes staff time, ties up the fax machine, etc
.11/26/2007 12:25:00 PMMy institution would not allow it.
.11/26/2007 2:28:00 PMI'll still have to keep my copies
.11/26/2007 6:05:00 PMI generally give my patients paper copies of their records, I would let them fax it.
.11/26/2007 9:42:00 PMI would ask the patient to fax their own records.
.11/27/2007 12:57:00 AMtoo late; already have an EMR
.11/27/2007 1:16:00 AMmaybe
.11/27/2007 1:42:00 AMmaybe
.11/27/2007 3:55:00 AMWould comply with their request but not eliminate other records
.11/27/2007 1:06:00 PMnot at this time
.11/27/2007 10:17:00 PMn/a
.11/28/2007 12:41:00 AMmaybe
.11/29/2007 5:24:00 AMNA
.11/29/2007 9:17:00 PMSee #9
.11/30/2007 12:13:00 AMFor a fee- our employee time is important and costs and our equiptment (including microsoft products) is not free
.11/30/2007 1:51:00 PMWould not reduce paper charts, unsure of security then who patient grants access to chart info and when
