If your practice had an EMR system that was compatible and could be easily interfaced with HealthVault, would you upload a patient's medical records to a HealthVault server, assuming the patient gave you permission to do so, and it didn't cost you anything to do so?
#Response DateOther (please specify)
.11/12/2007 7:52:00 PMDon't know
.11/12/2007 8:57:00 PMpossibly
.11/14/2007 1:41:00 PMdon´t know enough about it
.11/14/2007 8:49:00 PMI would ask the pt for permission to access what is there and be interested in uploading only specific pertinent info for the problems the patien and I are currently dealing with. Already we are drowning in information . It is hard to anticipate just what permutations and combinations of medical and personal information about a patient are going to be needed or useful in any one instance.
.11/15/2007 1:37:00 AMneed to know security issue and who would be legally responsible for "leaked info"
.11/15/2007 4:29:00 PMNot unless it is certified HIPAA compliant
.11/15/2007 6:13:00 PMNot until all security issues had been exhaustively studied
.11/15/2007 11:45:00 PMpossibly--would need permission
.11/16/2007 4:18:00 AMno experience
.11/17/2007 2:46:00 AMthat would be up to the company I work for.
.11/19/2007 2:00:00 PMI would have to if that was the only source of record material available.
.11/19/2007 2:36:00 PMnot until I know more
.11/19/2007 7:01:00 PMpossibly
.11/19/2007 8:11:00 PMMaybe.
.11/20/2007 1:36:00 AMIf I knew more, yes.
.11/22/2007 5:04:00 PMdepends on who exactly can access the patient health information and mine the data
.11/22/2007 5:39:00 PMdo not know the reliability of the info
.11/22/2007 5:48:00 PMOf course it will cost, staff time if nothing else. But I might do it anyway.
.11/22/2007 6:01:00 PMmaybe
.11/22/2007 6:01:00 PMmaybe--depending on assurance of privacy and security
.11/22/2007 6:14:00 PMI am not sure
.11/22/2007 6:28:00 PMWe would have to sit down and review the specifics long before I would say yes, or no...
.11/22/2007 6:59:00 PMYes, recognizing that time is a cost and must be accounted for.
.11/22/2007 7:06:00 PMmaybe
.11/22/2007 7:20:00 PMmaybe, it would depend on liability issues, HIPPA issues, and costs
.11/22/2007 8:12:00 PMI do know
.11/22/2007 8:16:00 PMwould depend on the amount of time required to do so
.11/22/2007 8:40:00 PMWith the patients direct authorizaton, obviously yes. The information is the patient's, not mine. I've got an intellectual property rights interest in my work product and the record of that work, but the information is the patient's.
.11/22/2007 8:56:00 PMdo not know enough about the system
.11/22/2007 9:19:00 PMI would need assurances that no one could alter this record.
.11/22/2007 9:36:00 PMmaybe; would depend on security issues
.11/23/2007 12:29:00 AMPossibly--if the patient requested I do so.
.11/23/2007 12:48:00 AMnot enough info on security issues
.11/23/2007 12:49:00 AMNo I vould leave that decision and action up to the patient
.11/23/2007 1:15:00 AMWhat would be the benefit. It seems to be an unnecessary step
.11/23/2007 1:20:00 AMpossibly, I need more information
.11/23/2007 2:09:00 AMDon't know
.11/23/2007 2:15:00 AMit would depend on the situation. Psychiatric records could be easily misinterpreted
.11/23/2007 3:29:00 AMDepends upon the ease of doing so. I would not do it if it took a significant amount of my staff's time.
.11/23/2007 6:31:00 AMdepends on security
.11/23/2007 12:57:00 PMI would want the cohic what to upload or not
.11/23/2007 1:22:00 PMI'm woried about legal issues
.11/23/2007 1:30:00 PMmaybe
.11/23/2007 2:05:00 PMMight if we would be relaesed from legal repurcussions for uploading it even with patitnes permission
.11/23/2007 2:11:00 PMMaybe. Depends partly on subtle obstacles (like time it took my staff, calls needed to a help desk, questions from pts, etc.) You'll need a lot of focus group and beta feedback to identify these deal-breaking hurdles.
.11/23/2007 2:20:00 PMIt would cost time which is money; so it would have to be quick
.11/23/2007 2:24:00 PMMaybe...but need to know more about the Health Vault.
.11/23/2007 3:12:00 PMdon't know at this time
.11/23/2007 3:31:00 PMONLY IF THE PATIENT INSISTED ON DOING IT
.11/23/2007 3:35:00 PMSelected records. Some that include particularly sensitive data would be excluded.
.11/23/2007 3:57:00 PMNot on initial patient request, but only after discussion about my concerns relative to secondary password dissemination
.11/23/2007 3:57:00 PMI am concerned about confidentiality, and there is not guarantee of such, nor is such a guarantee possible.
.11/23/2007 4:38:00 PMWould I be responsible if some one hacked into the data? Who would reimmburse me for my time to do this?
.11/23/2007 5:01:00 PMPossibly, but need more information on security and how information could be used
.11/23/2007 6:00:00 PMyes
.11/23/2007 6:59:00 PMpotentially; would want to work out with office protocols and with patients whether and how documents would be shared/transferred
.11/23/2007 7:24:00 PMPertinent information
.11/23/2007 7:30:00 PMWith the caveat that if he/she deleted parts of it - it would mark the area involved.
.11/23/2007 8:02:00 PMInsufficient information provided in the question to answer. Could be yes or no based upon the security and resources required
.11/23/2007 9:05:00 PMnot unless my records were secure from alteration
.11/23/2007 10:59:00 PMyes, of course with patient request, as their health record belongs to them or to guardian. In our "system," they would have to request each timefrom medical records, not me however.
.11/24/2007 12:24:00 AMnot sure
.11/24/2007 2:07:00 AMmaybe
.11/24/2007 4:27:00 AMIt couldn't cost me nothing to upload the data, unless my time or the work product of my university's IT staff is worth nothing.
.11/24/2007 5:37:00 AMToo hypothetical. The devil with such a plan is in the details.
.11/24/2007 12:36:00 PMonly if forced to do so
.11/24/2007 12:48:00 PMAssuming it was HIPA compliant
.11/24/2007 3:03:00 PMOnly if pt has signed medical info release on record. One - time only...would not update on regular basis
.11/24/2007 3:35:00 PMMaybe - the security issues, patient confidentiality and liability laws would have to change signficantly before this would be a viable option.
.11/24/2007 7:12:00 PMProbably
.11/24/2007 11:48:00 PMnot sure
.11/25/2007 1:37:00 AMPossibly--not sure yet.
.11/25/2007 3:57:00 AMPossibly
.11/25/2007 1:35:00 PMPatiwnt would have to understand the risks and relieve me of any liability if the info gets out
.11/25/2007 3:02:00 PMnot sure
.11/25/2007 4:33:00 PMneed assurances re security and confidentiality acceptable to regulators
.11/25/2007 7:08:00 PMit depends on legal circustanses, most likely yes
.11/26/2007 1:08:00 AMno emr
.11/26/2007 2:24:00 PMon request of patient assuming minimal transfer time
.11/26/2007 2:28:00 PMUnsure, not enough info
.11/26/2007 5:16:00 PMPossible, but I would have to feel comfortable with the EMR system and its interfacing.
.11/26/2007 6:05:00 PMThis would be very cumbersome due to HIPPA
.11/27/2007 1:16:00 AMpossibly
.11/27/2007 3:55:00 AMNot sure now
.11/27/2007 4:16:00 AMDon't know.
.11/27/2007 1:06:00 PMpossibly
.11/28/2007 12:22:00 PMI am part of a larger network of docs EMR so it would be a decision that would need to be made by the larger group
.11/29/2007 9:17:00 PMToo little information; it always costs money, even if just to review the chart.
.11/29/2007 11:05:00 PMbut we don't have EMR
