In May 2008 the American Medical Association's (AMA) Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs issued a report recommending that physicians and institutions of medicine SHOULD NOT accept commercial support for CME (Continuing Medical Education). The AMA House of Delegates will be voting on this at its annual meeting in mid June. What is your opinion on this?
#Response DateOther (please specify)
.6/11/2008 11:41:00 AMthis helps fund educational activities which otherwise would not be funded
.6/11/2008 1:24:00 PMIt is difficult to find money for this otherwise. Many CME programs have to support themselves and do not receive funding from the institution. Physicians are reluctant to pay for such as well.
.6/11/2008 1:27:00 PMCongress has to ask themselves if there is any value to going on privately funded junkets. I believe there is.
.6/11/2008 1:55:00 PMIf disclosed and appropriate it is ok
.6/11/2008 2:09:00 PMWho cares what AMA says? They don't fight for physicians anyway.
.6/11/2008 2:15:00 PMTHey should be allowed to. The bureaucracy surrounding CME has reached absurd proportions.
.6/11/2008 3:25:00 PMbut should report this.
.6/11/2008 3:25:00 PMbut should report this.
.6/11/2008 7:15:00 PMOK for commercial support, but need non-commercial CME
.6/11/2008 7:16:00 PMThis is more political correct BS
.6/11/2008 8:33:00 PMUnrestricted educational grant-in aids should be allowed
.6/12/2008 2:03:00 AMWhere ealse is it going to come from??
.6/12/2008 4:37:00 AMWe have no time thanks to ever increasing financial pressures -- give me a break and fund our CME
.6/12/2008 11:59:00 AMIf the pharmaceutical companies contribute funds to a pool such that no speaker or activity is tied directly to a specific company, and the sponsoring body has total control over who they invite, I fail to see how the companies can influence physician choices in medications, which I presume is what everyone worries about.
.6/12/2008 5:47:00 PMMedical Institutions may receive industry support for CME under clear guidelines and regulations.
.6/12/2008 7:46:00 PMThis will greatly impact educational opportunities for PC physicians
.6/23/2008 11:05:00 AMIf one can learn something important and beneficial to patient care, why not?
.6/23/2008 1:21:00 PMTransparency and full reporting is key
.6/23/2008 3:00:00 PMNo one can afford CME courses anymore
.6/23/2008 3:40:00 PMCommercial support should be paid in the form of a tax.
.6/23/2008 9:54:00 PMAS long as there is full disclosure
.6/24/2008 2:49:00 AMThe courses should remain unbiased
.6/25/2008 2:28:00 AMThis is a non-issue and does not affect MY prescribing behavior
