The Vytorin-ENHANCE study used measurements of carotid artery plaque thickness measured by ultrasound as a surrogate marker for coronary artery plaque. The ENHANCE study showed no significant plaque reduction with Vytorin as compared to Zocor alone. What is your opinion of this finding?
#Response DateOther (please specify)
1.4/22/2008 7:43:00 PMIMT is a greqt surrogate
2.4/22/2008 8:56:00 PMthe study was poorly concieved
3.4/22/2008 10:03:00 PMSince there was no intimal thickening, it was a bad group to study
4.4/22/2008 10:07:00 PMThe LDL goal was too high to affect plaque regression. Average treatment LDL was 139. Plaque regression takes LDL's below 70. Vytorin was not powerful enough in these patients. Crestor 40 mg plus Zetia would have resulted in plaque regression.
5.4/23/2008 2:56:00 AMTHE STUDY ONLY LASTED THREE YEARS AND ONLY HAD 724 PATIENTS. A STUDY LIKE THIS NEEDS A N=20000 OR 30000 AND MUST LAST AT LEAST 10 YEARS IN ORDER TO SEEE
6.4/23/2008 1:35:00 PMThe patients entered into the ENHANCE trial were heavily pre-treated with statins and thus had almost normal carotid arteries at study entry. Even the simvastatin group didn't show change.
7.5/2/2008 1:52:00 AMMain lack of applicability has to do with extensive prior treatment and low baseline CIMT
